Introduction

All the Engineers in SLES working for Government Departments, Ministries, Provincial Councils, Local Government Authorities and District Secretariats are members of the APSE who is governed by Engineering Service Board (ESB) in Ministry of Public Administration & Management.
Sri Lanka Engineering Service (SLES) has been started in 1906, with the establishment of the Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) and has achieved great national and international recognition. APSE is consisting of 1441 members’ positions, but presently active membership is about 1116 and hence 325 positions are vacant.
Local Engineers have been greatly contributing since past few centuries for building very important national infrastructures such as Townships, Buildings, Highways, Railways and Irrigation Structures including Large Dams, Ports, Coastal Protections Works and Airports etc. Our members are playing a key role entirely on construction and development activities with engineering inputs. The management and technical administration of technical divisions of all the governmental organizations are carrying out by the public service engineers invariably as members of APSE. The planning, designing and estimating of governmental development activities, technical consulting services, involving in processes such as government procurement, construction management, engineering management for operation and maintenance of national infrastructures etc. are the main services rendered to the nation by the members of APSE.
